Hey gals and guys, guess what? I'm moving to Abu Dhabi! So, I've decided to try to give this blogging thing another go. I started this blog site about a year ago, but could not devote much time to it because school got in the way. Not school as in my job, but school as in my doctorate degree program. What a bear!!!
I have completed all of my coursework for my doctorate degree program and I am now in my dissertation phase II - conducting my research study and writing the final chapters of my dissertation (chapters 4 and 5). My goal is to be done by the end of this calendar year. Prayers!!!
The move to Abu Dhabi, wrapping up this current school year in the Netherlands, and writing/revising my dissertation will, no doubt, be time consuming as well. However, I am very excited about sharing my experiences and adventures in Adu Dhabi also! So, this blog site will be my escape or break, if you will, when I've been working on my dissertation for way too long.
While I've lived/worked overseas since 2000, working in Abu Dhabi will be different for me since I will not be working/living overseas for the U.S. Army or U.S. government. I will be releasing this "safety net" and stepping out on faith - while stretching, learning, growing, sowing (and reaping)!
I have lived in a Muslim country before - I spent five years in Turkey. However, from my short visits to the UAE so far, it is a very different country than Turkey is. ;)
This will definitely be an interesting journey for me......
So, stay tuned for my adventures in Adu Dhabi, UAE! ;)
This was my first time in Toronto, but it will definitely not be my last! I absolutely loved Toronto and I wish that I could have stayed longer.
I actually went to Toronto to see Maxwell in concert at Massey Hall. Massey Hall is a small, intimate venue in downtown Toronto that reminds me of the Warner Theater in Washington, D.C. Maxwell put on an excellent show! I truly enjoyed it (although I wish he would have sung a few more of my faves, and I wish that he still had the hair! 😘).
In addition to attending the Maxwell concert, I did some traditional tourists activities - e.g., the CN Tower, Niagara Falls, and visited a quaint little town call Niagara on the Lake). I also did a Hop-on/Hop-off bus tour. 😁
When I get a chance to go back to Toronto, I'm interested in visiting the outlet mall there, in which you can be transported for free by shuttle buses. There's also plenty of other shopping right in the heart of Toronto!
In many ways Toronto reminds me a lot of DC with it's multicultural population, cultural activities, shopping, crowds, entertainment options, and restaurants. The people there are friendly and helpful! They have a great subway and train system that you can take directly from/to the airport!
Toronto is a must-see city! 💙
My plane landed on Saturday and I went straight to my mom's house to see her! Then I went to visit some other family members. Before long it was getting dark and it was time for me to go check into my hotel. I was excited about sleeping in my hotel bed after spending eight hours on a plane! However, after checking into the hotel and heading up to my room, I saw (and smelled) some things that made me change my mind about this particular hotel. I marched right back downstairs and told the guy at the front desk that I could not stay there! Thank God they obliged (and gave me a refund)! 😁 #HappyCamper
I'm at a much better spot now! Yaaaas!
